The House
Champs has been Altoona’s spot for a cold one and a good plate for a long time. The horseshoe bar seats thirty. The screens wrap the room. And the food is not an afterthought.
Pierogies from Jaworski’s. Raviolis made in house. DelGrosso’s sauces on the rigatoni. Wings with names and personalities. It is bar food cooked like somebody cares, because somebody does.
Forty taps rotate through the year, and growlers go out the door. Sit at the bar, grab a booth, or take the whole thing to go.
Every evening from five to nine, the steam bar runs alongside the kitchen.
It is the reason a lot of regulars pick a Tuesday over a Saturday. Pull up, order a draft, and let the steam bar do the rest.
